I own a female canary and a male parakeet. They share the sane cage and the male keet constantly makes sexual advances toward the beautiful female canary but she doesnt want any part of it. Lately the keep has turned aggresive. Would they ever mate? What kind of bird would their babies be?.Inter racial breeding? Can a canary be bred to a parakeet?Cararies and Parakeets are from totally different families and could never produce offspring. Parakeets are from the family Psittacidae and Canaries are from the family Fringillidae. Sometimes interbreeding can occur between species in the same family, especially if the birds are closely related. For instance, Canaries can interbreed with Red Siskins.
I would strongly suggest seperating the birds. Canaries are not social and she would prefer being alone. The fact that the parakeet is getting agressive is not good. He could possibly injure her.Inter racial breeding? Can a canary be bred to a parakeet?
No, they will not. They are two completely different species. The keet is probably just trying to show courtship since he has no other keets around him, he's not trying to breed with her.Inter racial breeding? Can a canary be bred to a parakeet?I had the same question about my parakeet and my cockatiel; my vet told me that it was "very unlikely". I spent $600 trying to artificially inseminate the female parakeet to no avail, as my vet told me.
All in all, I would think not. But it would really cool if possible.
They are distinct species - by definition they cannot mate!Inter racial breeding? Can a canary be bred to a parakeet? They will be mutant little birds.Inter racial breeding? Can a canary be bred to a parakeet?
No, nothing will come of it, except maybe some infertile eggs. They are completely different birds with the parakeet being a parrot and the canary being whatever the birds with three toes pointing forward and one behind is.
Much like the cabit, it is genetically impossibe. They are both birds, but it won't work any better than crossing a cat with a dog *they're both mammals*
And the babies? They'd be called immaginary. ^_^
Have a merry whatever.
no chance of them breed but there is a big chance that the parakeet will kill the canary, separate them for the sake of the smaller birdInter racial breeding? Can a canary be bred to a parakeet?
Nope! The parakeet can love your canary all day long, but there will never be babies. These are two separate species of birds from two very different parts of the world. As for the agression, my guess is that the canary is trying to attain dominance over the parakeet. They are establishing a "pecking order" if you will.
Give love to the birdies! Good luck!
Why don't you buy another Budgie for the Budgie...and get a Finch for the Canary if you want to cross breed a Canary lol
No! But I would give your canary its own cage. The parakeet might try and kill it.
