How can i justify that inter-particular spaces are present between all the states of matter?

please justify your answer!!!!How can i justify that inter-particular spaces are present between all the states of matter?an atom is made of nucleus and electrons. when the come very close to each othe, the electrons repel each other and so there is space b/w solids. in liquids there is not a high attraction b/w the atoms so there is some space, and similarly for gases
