My son has an Inter Milan football top and it has a flag on the back?

The flag appears to be the St George cross - any explanations anyone? My son has an Inter Milan football top and it has a flag on the back?Fiirstly, I'm afriaid that it is certainly a fake Inter Milan shirt.. the club have never worn this symbol anywhere on their official shirts since the days of Mussolini. No club would use it now, because of the political sybolism.

In Italy, although it appers in the city flags of both Milan and Genoa, the flag is now mainly known as the symbol of the Lega Nord ( "Northern League"), a far right wing (with fascist tendencies) political party who campaigne for the independence of Northern Italy from the South, which they see as poor, underdeveloped and foreign in nature. The Northern League gain some support from the fanatical "tifosi" (supporters) of Northern clubs, who use the politics to taunt Southern clubs...hence the flag on this counterfeit shirt. My son has an Inter Milan football top and it has a flag on the back?Unfortunately I can't speak to the actual history behind it, but if you check out the link below, you'll see the various other emblems:

Of course, here's the wikipedia explanation:

The St George Cross is also the symbol of Milan, Genoa, Bologna, and Freiburg; and used, for example, in the flag of the city of Barcelona in Spain, and it appears on the flag of Georgia. The Lega Nord, a popular Italian political party campaigning for the independence of Northern Italy, also uses the St George Cross as an official symbol.
