Is brooklyn safe?

i want to go to grimaldis pizza place as its my surname to so wanted to know how safe is it and how much would a taxi cost from 48th street wIs brooklyn safe?
take harry k's advice and take the subway. you can take any of the following:

2/3 trains to Clark Street / Brooklyn Heights (probably the easiest);

A train to High Street / Brooklyn Bridge;

F train to York Street.

afterwards, don't bother taking a taxi. it'll likely take longer to find one than to walk the 5-10 minutes from the subway. just make yourself a google map of where Grimaldi's is relative to the subway and just walk. or just look at the page below, which has a map...
First of all, Brooklyn is BIG. It is the size of a VERY large city. If it were a city by itself, it would be the 4th largest city in the country.

Next, most of Brooklyn is very safe. There are some tough parts of Brooklyn, but they are not the whole borough.

Lastly, Grimaldi's is in a VERY nice part of town! It is very safe!

And yes, Harry is right - take the subway!Is brooklyn safe?
Very cute idea. Brooklyn is no worse crime-wise per capita. Have fun at the b-day party.
Brooklyn is pretty safe.

Try to avoid Brownsville, East New York and Bed-Stuy especially at nights.Is brooklyn safe?
queens much much safer than brooklyn

but still there is no rule ,meaning that bad things might happen in safe places
For the people who say that all of Brooklyn is pretty safe, though there is alot of truth to that, you're being na茂ve. Although New York is the safest large city in the United States, that does not, by any means, mean that NYC is completely safe. Although as a tourist you'll probably never wander near a ghetto, basic common sense and awareness is still a MUST at all times. Unlike most cities(Detroit, Philly, etc) Crime in NY doesnt occur in regular patterns, rich neighborhoods and poor neighborhoods literally sit next to each other and walkin five blocks in any given direction could place you in a ghetto, and this is especially true in Brooklyn. Areas like DUMBO, Park Slope, Williamsburg, and Prospect Park are relatively safe because they're filled with upper-middle class yuppies. But areas like Bronsville, East New York, Red Hook and Bushwick are to be avoided at ALL TIMES if you a tourist. Trust me, i grew up here. Any trip to Brooklyn can be safe, and theres no reason that anything should happen if you simply excercise common sense.

Anyway, if you're on 48th in Midtown, just take the 2/3 train to Clark and you're good money. Grimaldi's is in basically tha nicest part of Brooklyn, and it's one of the best slices in america.
i think brooklyn Ny is a safe after they updated the securty after 9/11.

i grew up in New York and it was safe as long as i lived there.
It is most likely safe, though I am not sure where it is exactly in Brooklyn

if you go in daytime and you are not hanging around with a Nikon DX 40 around your neck, a fanny pack and a map you should be fine anywhere in NY

a taxi to Brooklyn from midtown would cost anywhere from $15 to $50-60 if not more, I would take a subway, cause it is only $2 one way

Subways are safe and awesome and it will take you just as long if not faster to get there

If you need help planning your subway trip, go to www.hopstop.com - it is like mapquest for pedestrians/subway riders
Brooklyn is as safe as any large city in America.....have fun............
Grimaldi's is in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan and Brooklyn Overpass), it's actually an "artsy" area with some high priced condo's and pretty safe. You would be better off taking the subway (2 or 3 to Clark Street) than taking a cab. It will be tough getting a cab back to Manhattan, cabs only hang out in Manhattan or at the airports, they don't like going to the outer boro's.
